Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located which was based in Washington DC. The following year, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for her journalism achievements, such as the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Her coverage included a variety of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms, as well as the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively together with the president Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
