The tragic death by shooting of Tejano singer Selena has triggered a response within the Latino community which can be thought of as similar to the responses to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena was a hugely well-known singer for Latinos across North America. But her songs touched the hearts of both young as well as the elderly. Selena is an edgy sexually attractive performer who is sometimes described in the media as Latina Madonna. She's also an admired role model since off stage Selena has a family-oriented attitude and actively is involved in anti-drug campaigns.
