Selena
She was an artist, performer, creator and set new boundaries in the music world. She was Mexican-American, but still traditional. She introduced Tejano into the mainstream of music. The same way many people mourn a star who has died far from their prime, the death of her was premature and destroyed a growing career. As a result fans were inspired throughout the years to dig in and work harder to ensure that her achievements won't be lost in the dust. The tragic death by shooting of Tejano singer Selena has triggered a response within the Latino community which can be thought of as similar to the responses to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena was a hugely well-known singer for Latinos across North America. But her songs touched the hearts of both young as well as the elderly. Selena is an edgy sexually attractive performer who is sometimes described in the media as Latina Madonna. She's also an admired role model since off stage Selena has a family-oriented attitude and actively is involved in anti-drug campaigns.
